A new proposal for new waste treatment plant KITCO

A proposal for waste-to-energy plant, prepared by KITCO, the government consultancy firm, for Kochi Corporation, was presented before the civic authorities on Tuesday.

Nearly 20 acre would have to be earmarked for the plant at the Brahmapuram site of the Kochi Corporation. The local body may have to provide the refuse at the plant site for the agency to process. KITCO has identified two agencies to set up the plant.

If the local body failed to provide the specified quantity of refuse, it might have to compensate the firm by paying fine, said some of the civic representatives who attended the session.

However, the civic administrators said the refuse generated from the city and adjoining municipalities and panchayats would be sufficient for running the plant.
